Arrive at Zurich airport. Drive to Konstanz, Germany, to visit the cathedral at Konstanz, where the Council of Konstanz was held in 1415 and where Jan Hus (John Huss) was condemned and burned at the stake. Overnight in Konstanz. Dinner on your own (suggestions provided).
Depart to Wilderswil (near Interlaken), Switzerland, with a stop in Schleitheim, a village on the Swiss/German border, where Michael Sattler, one of the early leaders of the “Anabaptist” movement (forerunners of Mennonites and Amish) wrote one of the early doctrinal statements for this movement, the Schleitheim Confession of 1527. Dinner and overnight in Wilderswil.
Spend each day enjoying free time in the Alps. You will be provided with a three-day pass to ride mountain trains, lifts, gondolas, funiculars, and boats to explore the Alps (the optional cogwheel train to the Jungfraujoch-Top of Europe is an additional charge). In the evenings, enjoy interesting and informative lectures on Switzerland and the Swiss Reformation from our guides. Dinners and overnights in Wilderswil.
Depart to Bern, with a stop at Einsiedeln Abbey, where Huldrych Zwingli served as a parish priest before moving to Zurich. It was here that he became disillusioned with the veneration of the famous "Black Madonna" relic, still on display today, which led him to advocate for scriptural authority over church tradition. Dinner and overnight in Bern.
Spend the day in Zurich. Visit the Grossmünster church where Zwingli initiated the Swiss-German Reformation, the Fraumünster church that boasts the famous Chagall stained-glass windows, and Limmat River where several Anabaptists were drowned in the early 1500s. Then enjoy a tour of the Lindt chocolate factory. Dinner and overnight in Bern.
Spend the day in Bern visiting the Cathedral, Einstein’s house, and the famous “Bear Pits.” Dinner and overnight in Bern.
Depart to Geneva with a stop in Gruyères. Enjoy a tour of a cheese factory where genuine Gruyère cheese is made, then visit the medieval town located at the top of the hill. Dinner and overnight in Geneva.
Spend the day in Geneva visiting the Reformers’ Wall, the Reformation Museum, and St. Pierre Cathedral where John Calvin preached over 2000 sermons and transformed Geneva into a center of the Protestant Reformation. Dinner and overnight in Geneva.
Fly home from Geneva Airport.
