Arrival of the group at the new Berlin Airport. Depending on your flight arrival time, enjoy a visit to one of Berlin’s romantic Christmas markets. We invite you to a welcome meeting at 6:00 pm, followed by an included welcome dinner at a typical German Brauhaus.
In the morning, we show you the highlights of Germany’s old and new political capital - Berlin. Drive by Parliament “Reichstag“ and the “German White House” and stop at the Holocaust Memorial and Brandenburg Gate. We learn about the Nazi Party when we stop at the square where the books were burnt. Later, we visit the “Berlin Wall Museum” – see the last pieces of the wall, original watchtowers, and an inside exhibition of the once-divided Germany. In the afternoon and evening, go out on your own and enjoy the unique atmosphere of several Berlin Christmas Markets.
Head to Wittenberg, hometown of Martin Luther. Visit the former monastery where Luther lived with his wife, Katharina von Bora, and his children. Visit the two important churches in his life—the Town Church and the Castle Church, where he nailed the 95 theses to the door. You will also visit the House of Melanchthon, Martin Luther's most important co-worker, and the famous oak tree where Martin Luther burned the papal letter.
Travel through the hills of Thuringia, a former state of East Germany when Germany was divided. Arrive at Eisenach, where Luther attended school for three years. Take an exciting tour of the famous BACH MUSEUM, dedicated to the composer Johann Sebastian Bach. Spend some time walking the cobblestone streets and visiting the Christmas market for lunch on your own.
In the afternoon we offer a highlight – we drive you up to the famous Wartburg Castle, towering on a cliff amidst miles of woods. Here Martin Luther lived for 10 months and translated the Bible into German, which had an enormous impact on religious life.
A local expert will take you on a guided visit to St. Augustine Monastery in Erfurt, where Martin Luther lived as a monk for seven years.
Onwards to Nürnberg. We stop at “Zeppelin Field” – a unique place to see how the Nazi propaganda worked during the large Nazi party rallies held here between 1933 – 1938. See also the place where the Nazi trials were held in the famous courtroom 600. A visit to the Documentation Center gives you more inside information about the Nazi period.
After dark, visit the historic center with Germany’s most famous Christmas Market. Feast on bratwurst, schnitzel, and gingerbread and enjoy the unique Christmas market atmosphere.
Visit one of Germany's most popular Advent markets, which presents everything about Christmas in 54 stalls in a breathtaking historic town with cobblestone streets and medieval houses. Enjoy brass groups playing on the stage at the Green Market. Hike around town on top of the historic city wall and look down at one of the best-kept medieval places in Germany.
We visit a remarkable city by the River Danube. We see where Calvin met with Catholic Cardinals to debate the true Christian faith, tour the vast cathedral, and marvel at the Rocco opulence of the “Old Chapel.” We will also see where Oskar Schindler of “Schindler’s List” lived.
A full day at leisure – walk by the River Danube and have a good German Bratwurst at a small stand that has served food since the 12th century. Enjoy a stunning Christmas market at the Castle of Thurn & Taxis and visit the castle individually.
Continue to Munich for a short city orientation followed by a walking tour of “Munich – the birthplace of the Third Reich.” See the place where Hitler’s “Putsch” failed and other places related to the rise of Hitler and his party. At noon, there is free time for lunch on your own, visit the Central Christmas Market at Marienplatz and do some last-minute shopping.
Late afternoon, we travel to Dachau, the first concentration camp. Go on an inside visit of the camp at your own pace with an audio guide. In the evening, at your hotel, a special Bavarian Christmas Farewell buffet dinner.
After breakfast, transfer to Munich Airport to fly home.
